About us

Biodiversity Research and Conservation Society is a non-governmental organization that has been in existence since 2017, and officially registered in 2019. BRCS started up as a humble organization in Munnar involved in conducting a number of initiatives such as river cleans ups, talks in schools & colleges and an active promoter sustainable ecotourism practices in the region.

Our Vision statement

To protect and conserve the rich floral and faunal diversity and make Munnar and its adjoining areas completely eco-friendly and sustainable in its day-to-day practices.

Pursue and contribute towards policy driven ecological research on the pertinent conservation questions that need to be urgently addressed in the high range landscape.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission Statement

The organization ensures that we protect biodiversity and promote sustainability through the following.

  • Pursue and contribute towards policy driven ecological research on the pertinent conservation questions that need to be urgently addressed in the high range landscape.
  • Ecotourism consultancy – to ensure that activities in newly proposed tourism sites and existing sites are not detrimental to the environment.
  • Monthly conservation education programs conducted in schools and colleges in around Munnar.
  • Conducting half-day, one-day and multi-day environment awareness programs for general public and tourists in and Munnar.
  • Printing and distribution of environment education material to relevant stakeholders and participants such as schools, colleges, tourists etc.
  • Organizing seminars, workshops and technical sessions with expert guest speakers and in-house technical staff for students and the general public about the biodiversity of the region and its conservation.
  • Ensuring that all the forest areas, adjoining buffer zones, all the existent trek routes are completely plastic-free.
  • Conducting river/water body clean-up programs and to tackle the source of these pollutants in Munnar and its surroundings
  • Providing logistic and/or monetary support for members from external organizations or independent researchers studying environmental and wildlife related issues with proper research permits from the Forest Department.
  • Establishment of a conservation education center to encourage students to increase their knowledge and interest in understanding and conserving the biodiversity.
